If not today, then when?

So, I just took part in The Working World Takes a Break webinar organized by Calm, leaving the session feeling inspired, joyful and ready to take action.

Not what you’d expect from a session where everyone is taking a break, huh? And yet, the way speakers such as Jay Shetty and Arianna Huffington were able to pinpoint why it is so important employers invest in their employees’ wellbeing, was truly motivational.

Some key takeaways:

  • Wellbeing is in service of the business as wellbeing and mental health are scientifically proven to be connected to business results, productivity and output.
  • We are all hungry for breaks and the permission within ourselves to do so, while we are commonly not trained to do so.
  • Taking small breaks throughout the day allows you making better decisions, less mistakes, more confident and feeling more capable (check out the “hungry-judge-effect”).
  • The silver lining of Covid: wellbeing became a “we”-conversation, as other people came to the realization that mental health is a universal concern, aside from the ones who were already dealing with it on a personal level.
  • Joy is the barometer to know whether you’re on the right track or not, not just whether you get the stuff done, but actually enjoy doing it.
  • Make sure leaders have the opportunity to model how wellbeing looks like, don’t only focus on numbers and profit.

Jay Shetty famously invites us to open as many doors at once. Some will stay open, others will close. Those that close are not a sign of failure, but an opportunity for growth. If you master this, everything’s possible. What about that?

Love,
M.
