About CV writing & standing out from the crowd

When drafting your CV, there is one golden rule you need to keep in the back of your mind: recruiters are typically lazy.

Before I get an avalanche of angry messages, I’m a recruiter as well, so let me nuance this bold statement a bit. If you receive hundreds of CV’s per week for you to review and are getting a lot of pressure from the hiring manager to find the perfect candidate, all you want (and need) are straightforward CV’s, to the point, giving you all the information you need in just a one minute glance.

So as an applicant, it’s your job to stand out from the crowd and at the same time, make a recruiter’s life easier. When your CV is considered too much to read, a recruiter might overlook important information and on that basis, decide you don’t make the cut. And that’s the last thing you want – and the recruiter as well, it’s always a two-way street (remember impatient hiring manager).

So if you are applying for a job, make sure that your CV is short and sweet. And that’s where it becomes tricky: how do you put all your assets, talents and experiences into a one-pager and make all of them stand out? It takes practice and guidance.

Next to coaching, I also offer career services, where I help you revamp your CV tailor-made to the job(s) you aspire, making sure the recruiter will be able to deduct all necessary information in just a short amount of time.

Love,

M.
